kindergarten
Children between the ages of 3½ and 6½ learn through play, imitation and movement in the Kindergarten. There are activities such as painting, breadmaking, gardening and carpentry. The children also listen to stories, sing together, and prepare and share a morning snack.
The rhythm of the year is celebrated through seasonal festivals, stories, ring games, songs, poems, movement and rhymes.
age-appropriate education
The Kindergarten has a warm, family-like environment that encourages co-operation, sociability and reverence, and respect for life and nature. By giving the children free space to develop their creativity, a life-long love of learning is fostered.
Being outside the maintained sector, the Kindergarten does not have to follow the national curriculum. Children are able to learn in a way that is appropriate to their stage of development. They are not subjected to SATs or any other kind of testing. Formal instruction, including the teaching of reading and mathematics, begins when the child enters Class One of the School.
